DigiFab Conference & Expo 2013
A 1-day gathering for anyone, in any field, to learn about the Promise and Challenges of 3D Printing, STEM, and other technologies hitting the news!

SME, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Downeast Chapter, and the University of Southern Maine are teaming up to present Northern New England’s only conference and trade show specifically focused on cutting edge topics related to digital fabrication. This one-day conference will include keynotes from world leaders in the field, tracks with presentations specific to manufacturing and education, panel discussions, and an exhibit area with demonstrations of some of today’s hottest 3D/digital fabrication technologies.

Highlights include:

  • Keynotes
    Buddy Byrum is the Vice President of Product & Channel Management at 3D Systems Corporation, where he has helped guide 3D System’s expansion of printer sales to virtually every corner of the globe.   Mr. Byrum’s presentation will discuss the changes in 3D Printing since the company founder’s invention of 3D Printing in 1983, game-changing applications for manufacturing and education, as well as the outlook for the future.

    Sherry Lassiterhas been at the epicenter of the FabLab world since its creation in the late 1990′s by Dr. Neil Gershenfeld at the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms where she serves as Program Manager.  She has been one of the chief architects of the global FabLab Network helping create FabLabs from rural India to inner city Cleveland.  She also serves as the Director of the Fab Foundation.  Ms. Lassiter will speak on the impact FabLabs have had on education, workforce development, entrepreneurship and communities.

  • Manufacturing and Education Tracks
    Presentations in each track will focus on success stories in Digital Fabrication, challenges that were faced with the new technologies, and how to prepare for the future.
  • NAMII Resources
    A representative of the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, mentioned in President Obama’s State of the Union Address earlier this year, will give attendees in both tracks an overview of resources that NAMII provides to industry and education.
  • Expo
    Vendors from digital fabrication technology, services and training will be on hand to demonstrate new products and answer questions related to all things DigiFab.
  • Networking
    Built into the program are ample opportunities to network with the world-class speakers, vendors, and other attendees.
